Bill Nighy's Pants

FG ≫ 2004 ≫ Bill Nighy's Pants

In his 60 second interview in today's Metro1, Bill Nighy confesses that he once discarded a pair of pants in Folkestone:

Were you a Hemingway fan? I still am. I read somewhere that Ernest Hemingway didn't wear underwear, so, on my way to Paris, I abandoned mine in the English Channel at Folkestone, the more to be like him. I loved his short stories, They blew my mind. He was a very radical writer. People pooh-poohed him as soon as he was dead, like they do with everybody because in order to embolden themselves, they diminish somebody else. He remains one of the great writers.

This is my site The 'Gerald that I set up in a fury of excitement when I first moved to Folkestone sometime in '04. I had been a frequent visitor for a while previous to that but I am technically one of those Down From Londons you get now. This site was updated more frequently with a calendar of events + voting for favourite places + things, and I know it was a useful resource for others who were moving to the area. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though only to Hythe) it doesn't get as much love as it used to. Ironic really as The town is becoming the exciting place we knew it was just about to. My name is not Gerald by the way, the name comes from the name of a pretend paper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local paper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are great aren't they? Do get in touch if you have anything to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on Twitter.
