I shouldn't joke. Move to rejoin the EU among options for the UK, Andy Burnham tells the BBC. This obviously not a popular idea with some people, though of course it makes sense. Leaving the EU was the biggest act of self harm ever seen, and didn't even see any of the "control" that those campaigning for it wanted. "Make the pensioners pay for it", is a reference to perhaps scrapping the triple lock on pensions from 2030, so pensions are still tied to the higher of inflation or 2.5%, but no longer tied to wage growth too. So still a double lock and not going to affect all of the people who would complain about it today, but the money to go into care, which will affect those people.
The IFS says the key change is that the state pension will not automatically jump up with average wage increases every year, but only broadly track them over a longer period of time.
That is important because in some years the triple lock has meant the state pension has risen faster than earnings.
He's going to get attacked from the right and the left for this, but the guy is doing alright so far I think!
