Got the beetle home from the garage. It started OK, bit smokey for a while there on the way home, but OK. Brakes, indicators, wipers, all good. It's had new brakes and an oil change, but they never planned to do anything about the rust, and it's only got worse while it's been away. I haven't looked closely.
Wife was so pleased to see it home again there were tears in her eyes. She's still crying now actually.
