Very nice full day in London yesterday. Started with a morning in Stratford. Got a busy train up, just three of us, one was at work, then we shopped fairly unsuccessfully for shoes for wife. As it was not going well, wife carried on in one final shop and T2 and I peeled off to The Cow for a sit down. Stratford very busy and very hot, Take That were appearing at the stadium there so lots of Take That t-shirts about. Wife joined us and we made plans for lunch, checking out the wait times at Wahaca. We'd enjoyed it so much last time, good to go back. But the queue was sounding too long for me, I had plans, so just the two had lunch there. And it was the two non-veggies, so they took the opportunity to fill their boots, getting the sharing options that they didn't have to share with me or T1. I got a wrap in M&S and off for part two of my day...
Elizabeth line to Tottenham Court Road, it was looking the slightly slower option for getting to Covent Garden, but it's got air con, so much better. Then walk to the Marquis of Anglesey where I'd met Andy last time too. Got pints and took them up to the roof terrace. Had to perch for a bit, then Andy arrived and he was constantly scouting for a table instead of listening to my fascinating conversation. It worked, we got a prime spot and had a few more beers.
Next to check in to our hotel, the Travelodge, then onwards. I can see from my receipts that we went to The Good Mixer (sat outside), The Bucks Head (had food on the roof terrace), The Hawley Arms (outside again) and then to The Underworld. This was the focus of the day, Tyla's Dogs D'Amour. So that's just Tyla from the original lineup but that's fine. Gig started very early, supposedly the band were just starting. There was a band on, but that's not them is it? We didn't recognise the person we'd come to see, some how he had got thirty-seven years old since we had last seen him. We didn't know all the songs, but enough, and they didn't play all the songs we expected off the best album, but it was great. Bit of a singalong so today my voice is hoarse like Tyla's singing voice.
Gig finished at ten, so we ran into the nearest pub The Worlds End to see if they were showing the football, and they were. We mostly watched that, I was half watching at best. Then we saw someone from the band came in the pub, then they all did, so we got sad fan boy selfies. I saw someonew wearing a festival-like t-shirt with band names listed on the back, but an odd festival with The Cure, Amy Winehouse, and Coldplay on it. Then realised it was a Barfly t-shirt, then realised it was Chris McCormack from Three Colours Red wearing it. Spoke to him and he says yeah, he's just bought the Barfly. Good luck to them hope it all works out, I heard it had reopened this week
We went back to the hotel presumably, as that's where I woke up this morning. Quite a good breakfast really, then a walk to Kings Cross and home again just about twenty-four hours after I left.
None of my pictures are good really. The selfie is but Andy might not want that shared so here's one of Tyla on stage..
