Headed to Solent Hotel and Spa on Saturday morning, to celebrate a birthday. I'd had a few sensible beers Friday night in the Potting Shed and left sensibly early, so we could head off early. Also skipped parkrun, so we were on our way about half nine. Not a bad run, had a little stop for a snack at Cobham and on our way again. A little snack for some of us but a boneless banquet box for one of the party, surely that is meant to be shared?
Met the rest of our party in the lobby, and we can't check in yet, but we can start making use of the facilities. Lovely place, lots of bits to it. I wanted it to be like being on holiday for a day and it was. We sat in the bar, there was real ale! Then also we swam, we had sauna, steam, jacuzzi, and a cool tropical shower. Our meal in the evening was great, and felt like a good price, but maybe it was that other things there did feel a bit pricey.
We had our own rooms this time, one for wife and me, one for mum and dad, and one for the boys, instead of trying to shoehorn them in with us. The rooms were good and big and comfortable with all the nice bits and pieces. Everyone liked the coffee machine and the fact there was fresh milk rather than little uht pots.
I can't quite figure out why we paid extra for T2, he ws more than the rest of us. I think they might have got confused and thought we were six people plus him rather than six including him. They put out the sofa bed in our room, and a cookie on a plate for him, even though the boys had their own room. Next time I'll just book him in as an adult!
Breakfast the next day was very nice too, a selection of cooked things from the buffet plus extras made to order. Plenty of coffee and juice, I tried to get my money's worth.
Next day off to a barbecue for more birthday celebrating, and that was really nice, saw several of the family and ate really well. Drive home was even alright. What a lovely weekend, really nice and relaxing.
Really light showers? When? It's incredibly hot here, and getting hotter as the week goes on. Wife has luckily been let off going to London this week because of the extreme heat. I think I'll try that.
Poor old Keir Starmer. I don't think this disruption is a good thing.
Light rain showers and a moderate breeze, 17 - 27℃.
