This runuary 1 / dryanury / veganuary lark is going OK really. I make that another ten days to do after today, but as I write this I have not run yet today. Got up early to take wife to the station so as to keep the car to take T1 to school as he has an exam today. Some sort of common assessment, he has a few this week. So I have not run yet because I might take the car back to the station at lunchtime, leave it there, and run back. It's raining and windy out there now, so I don't mind not going out right away, but I don't like putting it off. What if it's worse at lunch? I always have the indoor option as a back up.
The exam today meant they did not go to the quiz last night, which scuppered my plan to watch 28 Years Later at home, so I was then in the position to go and see 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple at the cinema. Really keen to see it, but it will be on my own. Have to make some other time now. Maybe next Tuesday if they go back to the quiz. Maybe take a day off, that is not excessive is it? I do have plenty of holiday left to use in February and March.
Not sure what I should be saying here about the biggest news in the world right now, Trump and Greenland, what's the point? It's just slightly out of my control. Hope it all calms down soon, surely the Americans can keep their bases there without trying to take the whole territory. I wonder if I'll look back on this when I'm old and think "why was I banging on aboutrunning and pubs when all this was going on that I wasn't paying attention to?". I am paying attention, I just don't usually write it down.
I do like this announcement about new grants and loans for green energy, this might finally be the year we have solar panels. Every year my excuse has been "ah we spent all the budget on a holiday", but 1) we do not have a holiday planned this year, 2) when we do it will not be as expensive as usual 2, 3) I think I have a share save maturing later this year so can take some of that money to do it even if we did spend all my work bonus money (due in May) on the holiday. I would love solar panels and a battery even if it did take twenty years of saved energy bills to pay back. And hey there might be a premium bonds win before then that helps out!
Work is good, looks like we are on track with our three big projects. I presented my two ideas for graceful degradation plans yesterday, and I think they were well received. As usual they appeared well received because mostly I didn't present them well so the half who were paying attention probably didn't fully appreciate it. Still, pushing on with that one!
Still doing more ongoing clean up of old run stats pages. I'm recovering lots of old step count by the looks, where pages were generated in 2020 and 2021 before the full count was in. By rebuilding the pages they now have the full step count, the "modern" lack of styling and the up to date Super Mario graphs on Saturdays. So for example Saturday January 16th 2021 did look like this:
And now it looks like this:
Oh that's not better is it...
Light rain and a fresh breeze, 7 - 10℃.
