Blog2025 ≫ Several days catch up

Have not been back here for a few days, very busy with work and then I have been OUT! TWICE!

Wednesday wife's work in London was fine and I collected her successfully from the station. So busy with work there could have been something to prevent that or make me late, but a friend covered the last twenty minutes that I needed. Work has mostly been about trying to get things out before christmas code freeze, which we are now in. Didn't quite make it, but too bad.

Thursday I was in London, this was my day of already having a cheap advanced ticket, so no extra costs to get me into London. Got a lift too the station, and got my usual favourite seat, second carriage, table, forward facing, aisle seat. Settle in with Private Eye and coffee and got a ping on my watch, from a calendar reminder, from when I'd bought the train ticket. Remember to get the later train today... the advanced ticket was for the 07:30 and I was on the 07:00ish. When the ticket inspector comes I will not have a valid ticket, possibly have to buy a new full price one, and even if they don't I'll have the same again at the barriers at London St Pancras. Lucikly we had not hit Ashford yet so I changed there, waited a bit, got my proper train. Still got a seat, very lucky here, and into work. I could have had another half hour lie in, but apart from that it worked.

Again busy all day in the office, a bit busy even for a proper lunch break, just got a Tesco meal deal and carried on. Just had time at the end of the day to make another page of content for my coding advent calendar. It's a shame I can't share it here, but the content for it is pretty work specific.

Time at the end of the day as I wasn't rushing for a train, I was staying up. Not staying over, just staying late, to go to MJ Hibbett's Totally Acoustic night at the King And Queen. On the way I tried to stop for a beer at a pub near work, but a) very very busy b) even though they advertised cask ale on a poster in the window I didn't see it, so moved on. Instead went to The Old Mitre nearby, where I had been before. This 500 years old or more and they do have the real ale I was after. Very very busy with after work crowd also. They say Thursday is the new Friday. Or they probably did twenty years ago.

Gig was good, fully packed. The acts were Matt Tiller, The Highchurches (a four piece band from Brighton), and MJ Hibbett accompanied by CJ Thorpe-Tracey. CJ Thorpe-Tracey is AKA Chris TT, I didn't realise this until the day. He has played with Mark a lot and I actually saw him at Glastonbury.

Got the not-quite-last train home and not a bad walk back from the station. I would not drag the wife out for a lift at this time.

Friday, also busy, this was the real final day before code freeze, got a lot done. Then to The Clarendon for a change. No takeaway on the way home from this one but I did have a ready meal I'd bought earlier.

Did not do parkrun in the morning, is that three in a row skipped?? Or more? Am I still a runner? Still feeling slightly weakened by that lurgy. I heard from an actual doctor friend that there is a weird flu going round that just saps your strength, so I'm taking that. He'd a doctor of computers, but it still counts.

We walked to Loaf cafe in Sandgate, and tidied the house ready for christmas decorations. Then a night in for me watching Stranger Things on TV with the boys. I did a great dinner of chilli tacos, great guacamole, it was a hit. There is chilli left over ready for today to, I did a big Ninja full of it. Today no tacos though, wraps and rice and peas, proper chilli.

Weather a bit crap again today, but still might go for a walk to Hythe later for beer. Also, might not.

42Kph winds and rain, 10 - 14℃.

Estimated 2892 cups of coffee ☕️ from my espresso machine 1 probably comes to £0.89 a cup (including 3+ years supply of coffee ☕️ and now servicing 1 so not the 'leccy).
