It's a tutu run today, when the Saturday lands on the 22nd of the month that's what we call it in the cult of parkrun. The next one is not until August. I'm still slightly under the weather (though a hundred times better than Monday) and didn't want to risk anything for a) curry out tonight with friends and b) Radiohead on Monday. So no parkrun for me. Probably back to it next week, but the next tutu run is not until August.
Braved the pub last night, we went to The Bell in Hythe first for a change, as we heard someone new had taken over. When we got there even that was old news, the "someone new" from Canterbury had taken over four weeks ago but then walked away from it, and someone even newer had taken it on that very week. It was the people who used to run The Drum near Holiday Extras. It was good, they had a Timothy Taylor Landlord on and a Dark Star Hophead, and they had the big old fireplace roaring and we sat right by it, lovely. Then on to The Potting Shed where I had completely forgotten he was doing his beer festival so he had seven or eight different beers on the go! I had a Kent Brewery Prohibition X - this is the extra version of the great Prohibition, brewed a bit stronger. A great beer but slow to drink.
We got a Chinese on the way home and there was a bit of a battle between them and the Indian next door going on. Coppers were doing some sort of work and had parked a van RIGHT in front of the door of the Chinese, actually blocking any customers coming and going. They were furious, the police got called. We had to get served through the window. Not impressed with the guy from Coppers at all, a terrible time to be doing this, it seemed vindictive.
Other giggings from the past, Queens Of The Stone Age twenty-five years ago this very day, and today way back in 1991 it was Skid Row and Love Hate in London, two of my favourite bands of the time together. Of the time. I read a great book about the era that was just ending here, was it this one 1 2? I am reminded the hair metal MTV rock era was ending as I also saw Nirvana in the same week as that gig.
There's a chance parkrun would have been cancelled anyway with this weather.
40Kph winds and rain, 7 - 9℃.
