Super packed schedule today. Starting with a 05:30 get up so as to be able to get ready for work and have a chance of helping the boys get ready for school. Making their breakfasts and waking them up before we have to head off for a train at 06:40. Then a stressful search for a free parking space on the nearest street to the station that is not in the restricted parking zone. It's getting harder and harder, had to drive to the top, turn round, attempt and fail one too-small space, then drive down even further to squeeze into another fairly bad space. Fast walk from there to the station. Turns out we're five minutes early for the train. The wife leaves more time than I would on my own, but today on my own I might have missed it. Walked past our friends new house near the station, spared about thirty seconds to be jealous of that, then on the 07:01 train to London.
Had time to think on the train, why am I on such an early train? It's not a normal day of work, it's a team day, nothing starting until 09:30 probably. Got to London, walked to work, did a bit of work before the team day started. We had the delicious vegan pastries that are now a tradition of these days to start.
09:30 team day starts, and is up against its own schedule all day. I had to get up and talk in a bit I wasn't expecting, then lunch was late, and my bit I was expecting to talk in got bumped to after lunch.
Lunch in Leather Lane approx 13:15, got a wrap AND chips as I thought this is going to last me through until the end of the day. Bumbled through my few minutes of talk, then the day is over and we're running a bit late to the fun part of the team day. Got tube to Flight Club Victoria to play darts, arriving (late) about 15:30.
Darts good, why am I not better? It doesn't look hard but I have no control, can barely hit the board. I did flukily win one of the games though, a couple of lucky throws right at the end.
Sort of forgot there would be food, there was loads of vegan food, pizza and other snacks, and loads of alcohol free beer. Most people also not drinking.
Now the schedule relaxes slightly, I can leave here at my leisure to be at the Museum Of Comedy for Nick Helm's work in progress starting at 19:00. Doors and bar open at 18:00, I'm there for about that following a tube ride and a lot of walking in very heavy rain down Oxford Street.
Museum of Comedy is GREAT, a lovely venue, in the crypt of a church. I've walked past it a few times I realise and wondered what it was. I would love to go there again. Lots of comedy memorabilia and pictures and so on on the walls. A good bar, with a good alcohol free IPA.
Show started promptly at 19:00, we're back on schedule again, but it's soon announced "I know we said this would be an hour's show but I have loads of material to practice for the tour shall we go on much longer?". Now I'm tense again, I have to be on the 21:07 train as I booked it at a cheap rate, a non flexible ticket.
The show was great, the room was tiny, what a treat. Only holds about thirty people. Nick Helm is amazing.
I left in the interval, after about an hour and ten. Nick if you're reading this (I expect you are) and are wondering about the empty seat, read above, I had a fixed train I had to get so had to leave then to avoid disruption.
Walked back to the station, no rain this time. Early for the train. Sat on the train now writing this up!
Heard today about Radiohead tickets going on sale, we have to register on Friday and just keep our fingers crossed. I can't see us getting them, but we'll try. When it sells out I hope they just keep adding more dates, rather than any Oasis style "dynamic pricing". Radiohead are better than that. Fingers crossed.
Gusty winds and thundery showers, 9 - 18℃.
