Blog2025 ≫ I knew I didn't even write up Singapore...

Just found this dictation draft in my email. I need to clear down my emails, and my google photos, as I'm running out of space. Just this one isn't going to make much difference. Looks like I dictated some notes on the last day in Singapore in 2024:

Last hour of the last day in Singapore and I'm just taking a walk around, while wife and the boys shelter at the hotel. We're being picked up in half an hour, probably. We hope. It's not exactly clear. Still very hot.

We sat around the pool most of the day, and it wasn't actually that hot, it was quite overcast. T2 seems to have sunburn but he was in the pool longer than I was.

I just had some vegan durian ice cream, first taste of durian. Well that's really my last, possibly my last. It tastes of onion and garlic, and it smells of gas. It wasn't altogether unpleasant. I liked it while I was eating it, and now I finished eating it, I can still smell it. I wonder if I'll be sweating this out on the plane, so everyone else can enjoy it on the way home?

We have about a 15-hour flight on the way back. We are going to be tired when we get to the other end, and then I have to pick up the car and drive home from Heathrow. It could be a stinker but then we have a whole of Friday ahead of us, and I suppose I could go to the pub. My not drinking in the week has partly gone, but not too bad. I've probably drunk every other day here on holiday, but that's not bad for a holiday.

I'm about to cross over a road which I know is near the hotel, so I didn't manage to get lost, that was good. I just went for an hour's walk, just not heading anywhere in particular. I ended up at Raffles again. That's twice. I walked right past it, but we didn't go in either time in the end. Didn't think it would be our sort of place, and we had lots of other places to go. I know it's an institution but I've done lots of things on this trip that are a "must see" and they haven't all been great. The light show at gardens by the bay wasn't really worth it, but it was very popular. And I didn't like Marina Bay Sands much either.

I'm looking at a sign, it now says estimate 27-minute drive to the airport. When I walked past here about half an hour ago it was estimating it's a twenty minute drive.

I could really do with some chewing gum to freshen up from the taste of the durian, but of course there is none to be had here. I did have a toothbrush and toothpaste in the hotel to brush my teeth after I got showered after we'd been swimming earlier, and then I threw it away. This holiday has been a bit of an eco-disaster.

It's interesting, looking around here. It's still not easy to walk. It's very slow getting anywhere on foot, because of the crossings, the traffic lights, they take a long time to turn green.

And that's it, my enlightening final thoughts of our holiday in 2024.
