Blog2024 ≫ Lovely long weekend

Had a day off Friday to head to Mum and Dad's. OK really had the day off to go to Portsmouth and see The Cult at Portsmouth Guildhall, but it would have been rude not to combine it with a family weekend.

Terrible drive down there, the M25 junction at the top of the A3 is impassable, so a detour through the top of Surrey. Leatherhead maybe? We got there eventually, and as we'd left reasonably on time we were there for sofrt of lunchtime. Soup for lunch, quick change, and Clare and I ditched the boys and got a bus down to Portsmouth.

They have electric buses! We got the X5 which is a fast bus from Portchester to Portsmouth right down it's own lane down the motorway, brilliant. We walked to Elm Grove first to find heavy metal pub The Deco. We were really going to go on to Albert Road to look for Pokemon cards, but we decided to stop in for one. Brilliant pub, choice of real ale, all heavy metal, and a free pool table.

As it was eary afternoon and normal people were at work it was quiet. This is the best time to be in the pub. I thought perhaps it was new, at least the heavy metal aspect to the pub, but it's been like this for nearly twenty years. We said we'd be back after we'd eaten. Spoiler: we did not go back.

We did walk on to Albert Road, but the Pokemon cards T2 is collecting seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Next to Palmerston Road, aiming to eat in Croxton's, where we'd been before. But, too much choice when we got there. Meat And Barrel menu was tempting, then there's a vegan restaurant across the road too, and a great looking Italian there too. We did stick with Croxton's, and had beer and burger. Burger was only really OK, I think we could have done better.

Not really time now to go back to The Deco, will have to try and do it next time I go to Portsmouth. Instead we walked to Brewhouse And Kitchen, but they were understaffed and had no glasses and could not serve anyone. So across the road to The Dockyard, which was a bit crap really, a big old fun pub, not for me. Then back to Brewhouse And Kitchen to see if they had washed any glasses yet, and they were in the process of it, but seemed to be doing it in a piss-takingly slow fashion. We eventually got a beer, after complaining, but only a so-so beer.

Time now to the gig, that should have its own write-up shouldn't it?
