Hot hostel adventure. Not the weather, that was pretty much stinking. Work was eventful, and the day went fast. I had my lunch I'd taken with me again, and just about enough time to eat it. Then after work to check in at the hostel. They did not have a lower bunk like I asked for. There are hundreds of bunks in there, why not? The one I did get was up on the fifth floor, end of the corridor, and right under a massive blasting heat vent. It was hot, really hot, I was sweating just being in the room to drop my stuff off. No idea how to control the heating so I opened the window. Arranged my bed the other way round so I could be as far from the vent as possible.
Walked to Islington in the rain. One thing I am getting out of these adventures is that I'm finding my way around London without having to look it up. That's something.
It didn't feel like I had enough time for the Indian buffet, I probably had the same amount of time I had the first time I saw this place when I thought I didn't have enough time to go in. However, I can eat fast and there's no time wasted. I got some turmeric water to accompany my three plates of curry and salad, and it was all great. Ten quid well spent.
I was back at the cinema, close to my preferred seat. Just off centre in the second row. The dead centre here behind the wheel chair section is the best spot, and the cheapest tickets too. That seat was gone but I was just to the side. Oh yes, the film, I saw Joker: Folie a Deux, and it ws OK. Not the full on musical I had been led to believe. Quite good but a bit slow moving. It did look like it was setting some stuff up for another film. And yes I saw the Wayne building and Two Face. Who was that at the end though, was it the actual joker / the new joker?
Back to the hostel again and not too bad a night's sleep. I was not disturbed by anyone else anyway, it was mostly quiet. I did keep waking up every hour thinking I had missed a call from work. I was on call, had the laptop with me, might have had to work at any time. I did not have to work.
Next morning while packing up to leave I could not find my glasses. Was sure I'd had them on just before going to sleep but no sign of them. Probably they fell off the bed in the night and bounced away somewhere. Then, jumping down off the bed I hit the floor a bit awkwardly. Foot has been hurting all day. Will see how it is tomorrow.
I limped to Boots at lunch and bought some new reading glasses. I've had too many pairs of temporary glasses. Have made an optician appointment for tomorrow. So does that all count as part of this week's budget?
Commuting | Staying over |
---|---|
80 quid train fare | 21 quid hostel |
10 quid cinema | |
10 quid dinner | |
10 quid glasses | |
Learning more about London | |
See the family | Generate blog content |
Sleep better | Don't have to put the bins out |
------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------- |
80 quid down | 51 quid down |
If I do count the new glasses, and I suppose I do, this is the most expensive week. Has it really got more expensive each week? Will I soon overtake the cost of the train?
Maybe slightly updated packing list (based on my big packing list) for next time. Quite prepped in advance for next time actually.
No need to duplicate the packing list, nothing changed this week.
Free Octopus Energy 1 tomorrow over lunchtime, only two hours this week, but appreciated.
Light rain and a moderate breeze, 11 - 12℃.
