Blog2024 ≫ Febrewery 29/29

Was really thinking this would not happen. Felt I had an effective morning at work, and had some time in hand, and some enthusiasm. Some get up and go. Maybe it was all the coffees. I can still do this, I thought to myself. I had been preparing excuses, maybe I could make tomorrow the honorary 30th of Febrewery or something. But no. I looked up the bus and there was one due in five minutes, so ran to the bus stop. It started raining but that didn't stop me.

First to The Red Lion, and the bus goes right there, so that was extra handy. I stopped to take a picture of the old Duke's Head, and The Globe, both closed pubs of Hythe, but won't embellish this story any further with them. The Red Lion was very nice, choice of four beers on, and very lively for a Thursday lunchtime. Mostly groups of older people, but that's Hythe. I necked my half of Sussex Best and on to the next pub.

Next to The White Hart for another half . This is also nice, but it's a restaurant with a bar these days really. Also they do not have the choice of real ale on, only one at a time, and it was Greene King Abbot. Seems a waste if you are not a tied Greene King pub. Still that's twenty-nine pubs in twenty-nine days, go me.

So my Febrewery list for 2024:

I made heavy going of that, some real missed opportunities. No trips to Fareham, nor even really to London this time round. A day out in either of those could have netted me half a dozen in one go. Also I mostly don't drink at all in the week5 and I had a couple of mostly dry Saturdays in there because of running the boys around and Clare'w work. Also importantly I have had some standards, I have mostly not been to crap pubs. I certainly have not been to any that I knew would be disappointing before I went, so I have avoided the pub closest to the house. It seems like an open goal, but I'm better than that. Also avoided a couple that were on last year's list and are fairly close to the house, but I knew would not be good.

There was three hours of free energy today6, and I managed to make use of that. There's half an hour of energy saving now, but no chance to get in on that, the oven is on and it's too short notice to get anyone else to change their plans.

I have a bus ticket still from lunchtime, I thought I'd go out again tonight. Maybe celebrate by going back to The Potting Shed. But it's raining and I can't be bothered. Staying in and we're going to watch Death In Paradise on TV.

Heavy rain and a fresh breeze, 5 - 8℃.

Estimated 1600 cups of coffee from my espresso machine7 prob'ly comes to £1.09 a cup (including actual coffee and now servicing7 but not the 'leccy).
