Blog2023 ≫ Let there be light

Got light in the cloakroom again at last. A bit of DIY electrics, replaced the switch with another one of these switches1. Moved the PIR motion sensor over from the IKEA integration directly to zigbee on home assistant, so now there is a light I can control, with a normal wall switch, and the light will come on anyway when you go in the cloakroom. This is only the same functionality we had before the bulb went, but now the implementation is different. I'm pleased anyway.

Took an age to fit the switch, I really struggle with those little screws that go into the dry liner in a plasterboard wall. I'm sure there could be a better design. So many times I line the screw up, start screwing it in and it slips and just pushes the-bit-that-the-screw-goes-into away. Took so long and was quite frustrating so I think I'll leave my other new switch for another day. Also this fits with my plan of not changing more than one thing per day, so it is easier to see what went wrong when something goes wrong.

Chilli in the Ninja is good, so that's what we're having for tea. Have made enough for twelve portions so some for us, a single for Clare next time she's working late, and then two family portions for the freezer.

Definitely feels colder than the 7℃ the BBC is claiming. The heating keeps coming on here.
