Blog2023 ≫ Friday night out in Folkestone

Headed into Folkestone for a bit of a change after work yesterday. Got the bus in to save Clare driving out again giving me a lift as she'd had a long day already. Bus was a few minutes early, or the previous bus was really quite late, perfectly timed for us. No hanging around in the cold. Friend Alwyn who also lives in Seabrook had to run for it, and then luckily our other friend Sean just caught it in Sandgate. His brother was visiting so he went on to the station to meet him and we headed to a pub, first stop The British Lion.

Except the British Lion doesn't open until 7pm! So no British Lion for us. Next pub was going to be a compromise then. We warned Sean and headed into The Guildhall. Haven't been in in such a long time, it's just not on our radar these days. It was jolly enough (and they still have a pool table a rarity) but the beer wasn't inspiring. When the others arrived we headed on.

Actual stop two was Kipp's Ale House and the real ale in there did not really inspire us either. What is going on today? So on again.

Stop three was The Firkin Ale House and the beer there was better. Friend's brother ordered an unfined beer by mistake, looking for the lightest weakest beer on offer and would not drink it. I could not see it go to waste, but wished I'd had a second pint of the Tropicale instead.

Finally to The Bouverie Tap and more good beer. We sort of made plans to go there for a christmas meal, the festive menu sounded quite good.

Well that was nearly the last stop but instead we went to the kebab shop opposite, and I don't think that was that great. Finally, actually finally, a taxi home.
