Blog2023 ≫ A day out in Maidstone

We all had a free day together on Saturday, with no actual need to do anything. Nothing to buy, nothing needed doing. T2 had an escape room voucher for his birthday so we decided to use that, in Maidstone. Back to Prison Island, where we had only done the mini golf before.

We got the 9am train there. The only escape room slot we could book was quite early, so I had to forego parkrun this week.

It's not actually an escape room there, it's more like The Crystal Maze. You book an hour and get an RFID tag and access to twenty or so rooms. The tag opens the door and starts the timer and then you have a thing to solve. Some of them are mental challenges, there was a game of Mastermind in one, some are proper physical challenges, like a climbing wall, and some were a mix of both. It was fun and actually quite tiring. The boys liked it, they could contribute more maybe in this one, but we preferred a normal escape room I think.

They had milkshakes in there, then a wonder around Maidstone and then to lunch, at Wild Wood. I had vegan lasagne. Though we'd got the train there, neither of us were drinking. Normally we would have headed in a pub after I think, but instead we went to the department store there, to Waterstones, and then train home again.

I got a Chinese takeaway from Nine Dragons, trying out their new vegan things. Vegan king prawns Cantonese style anyone? It's alright actually, some sort of protein formed into shapes. I have plenty left for my lunch today, I wasn't really hungry enough for it but just fancied the change.

Weather looks nice out there today, sunny but windy.

41Kph winds and light rain showers, 8 - 14℃.
