I was at a Radio 1 Britpop event this day in 1995. I think. I think I have the day right, and I just found a site that has a bootleg of it and they have the same date as me. It was Longpigs and Fluffy live for Radio 1 and then special surprise headliners of Menswear. I mean, Radio 1 must have know about it, it can't have been a surprise to them. Anyway, Camden Underworld, the same venue I am going to this weekend.
Also twenty-one years ago today in 2002 another sort of surprise gig. Some event relating to work, one of the companies had done a competition on local radio stations, they had booked Paul Weller to play a small venue in Islington. I think he didn't fancy it at the last minute so the lineup was changed, and so a lot of the competition winners then also didn't fancy it, and there were a load of free tickets. Anyway it was a good gig, McAlmont and Butler and Space, at that Islington Academy shopping centre venue.
