Blog2023 ≫ Some home automation success today

I think the key to home assistant / home automation success is small steps. I set up one of the IKEA / Sonos lamps that had gone missing from the system and that is now working again. No power outages either yet, I have plugged it into a different socket. Then another small step I looked into one of the IKEA on / off switches, of which we have many. I have had no joy getting the big round multifunction ones configured unfortunately, but these little ones are good. Now my "next to the chair" button is set up. Setting it up through home assistant means I can use all the options on the switch as if they were different buttons.

So a tap of on sets the lights for TV time, including turning off the lights in the kitchen and dining room. Then a long press of the on button will turn those lights back on again, in case I've settled down for TV time and someone is still in the kitchen (it happens).

So, don't try and change more than one thing in one day, that's my mantra from now on.

No more home automation tinkering, back to the Ninja. Going to do some roast potatoes now for the boys to have with their tea, and then put some chicken in and reheat the potatoes with that. Just seen a recipe for roast potatoes saying pressure cook for only three minutes, and then air fry for twenty. Trying it1.

Weather is a stinker again.
