Blog2023 ≫ Nearly got away with being on-call

Was on call overnight. Kept waking up in the night thinking "what if I don't hear my phone???" but there was no call and all was fine. Until I got in the shower just before 8am, and the phone went, and I had to respond and get to my laptop wrapped in a towel. Joined the call, it was a manually raised issue, and wasn't customer facing anyway. Really worth getting me out of the shower and not waiting until 9am? Found the problem, tracked down the team responsible (it looked like us but it wasn't us, someone intercepting our work). All good, and I think I look good for fixing it, and I'll take the time back tomorrow.

With the allowance I get for being on call for that day I might buy some new shorts.

On call again tonight, fingers crossed it's not much worse than that. Then Friday I am free again...

Today in 2005 we were at the Foo Fighters warm-up at London Astoria, and THIRTY YEARS AGO TODAY I was at a fairly poor Dogs D'Amour gig at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth. When I saw the name Dogs D'Amour coming up I thought "thirty years ago, yeah that's fair", it was one of my earliest gigs at Portsmouth Guildhall. But no, this is not them when they were good, this is them on the way back down again four years later.
