Just had our boiler serviced, and as the boiler service man was leaving he said "any questions?" And I suddenly thought "yeah why has this radiator never worked?". It's the main big radiator in the lounge, and it's not really a problem now because of the hot weather, and it's not a problem most of the time because the house is really well insulated. But, as it's there it might as well work. He hit it with a wrench and the pin in the thermostatic valve popped up and now it works again. About thirteen years it's been like that.
Actually there's a problem with the thermostatic valve too and that will need replacing in order to control the heat. Right now if it got cold enough that one would just come on full. But at least it would work.
One other thing the heating engineer did was change our boiler from pre-heat to eco mode. He said pre-heat is a gimmick, it must be constantly firing up to warm up a little header tank of water, to give the illusion of an instant supply of water. Better to just let the taps run a bit, you have near-instant hot water anyway and it will save money. I will be watching the energy graphs.
What can I get fixed now? Time to revisit the old todo list? No progress in a long while here!
