Blog2023 ≫ Holiday 2023 - Stonehenge

From my messages to my friends - that I refer back to when retrospectively writing things up from my blog - it looks like we left Fareham by 9.45 and were stood next to Stonehenge by 11.45. We got up and left promptly, no parkrun. I thought it only fair as I think I talked Clare out of going to pump class the day before so as to get to Portchester as early as we could. So, no exercise for me this day. Not much when we got to Stonehenge either. We bypassed most of the queues because we were English Heritage members and jumped straight onto a transfer bus to the Stonehenge monument itself. I heard it is better to walk up there but we were in a hurry. We weren't planning to spend much time here, quick souvenir selfie and then a sandwich on our way to Bath. But, Stonehenge is awesome! Smaller than I thought, but you can get closer than I thought too.

Visitor centre has lots we didn't see, but the cafe was good. We chose a load of food and then found we could get a free kids lunch bag with each purchase, so we ended up with extra sandwiches the boys would not eat, and then crisps and juice and snacks for later. I would like to come here another time and spend more time, there are what looks like iron age houses and a whole exhibition we did not see, plus artifacts found on the site.

This was not really "on the way" to Bath, so we backtracked a bit, but this leg of the journey was better than the bit to Portchester.
