Blog2023 ≫ Ninja cottage pie was a success

I did the filling in the Ninja multi-cooker, and I did the mash top in that too (Mash worked great in the Ninja, raw potatoes and a cup of water in, pressure cook for ten minutes and they were perfect, hardly needed mashing), but I baked the whole thing in the oven. I'd put it in a dish too big to fit in there. So damn my energy bills are goingt to be up today! Mash worked great in the Ninja, raw potatoes and a cup of water in, pressure cook for ten minutes and they were perfect, hardly needed mashing. We did two loads of washing, because of a build up, and because of swimming. The cottage pie itself was a great success though, the boys ate without grumbling, and there are three portions left. Clare is taking one to work with her.

On energy, Dave is on a super flexible deal with Octopus where you pay the cost that electricity is at the point you use it. And in off peak times, or when it's sunny and windy and they're generating too much the price goes negative. So between 10am and 4pm today for example he's being paid to use it. This would be great, I could have all my washing and drying and cooking on now, but there's no way I'd get the buy in from the rest of the family. I'd be sweating at 6pm when they'd say there's no way they can do without oven and games consoles and so on at exactly peak time. So sticking with my fixed rate for now, and just being fairly efficient with it. Expecting the electricity prices to drop a bit soon anyway.

One of my favourite gigs exactly twenty-one years ago today, a Suede gig at Camden Electric Ballroom, the one where they did the "wheel of fortune" to decide what to play. The Electric Ballroom is where Clare and I met, though she wasn't at this gig with me this day.

Birthdays coming round soon and I don't have a present for her yet. Thinking she might be quite wowed by T1's Apple Watch that is arriving today and I get her one of those.
