Blog2023 ≫ Febrewery 2/2

A disappointing start to Febrewery really, I hope it picks up. First off let's start with pub minus one, The Inn Doors. This would be the first place I'd go to normally, this is what I think of as "my pub", and it's still closed, and it might not reopen again. After a month of not going out this is where I wanted to be, and I cannot. So my second choice for an ideal pub to start Febrewery, The Potting Shed in Hythe. I know it closes very early so I asked Clare to give me a lift after tea. It looks closed she said, no I said, it always looks like this I said. It was closed, so let's call that pub zero. I saw a friend coming out of nearby bar (not pub) Henry's and he says it'll be open tomorrow, but the landlord is away on a cruise. I made half a plan to meet this friend in there on Saturday. So still looking for pub one. Next stop The Butt Of Sherry. It was busy. I know it recently went up for sale but from half heard conversations in there I'm not sure if this is the new owner. If this is the previous owner, it looks to be doing very well, both bars busy, lots of food being served, I think it will do OK. I also nosed in on a conversation between two tables, two locals on one and two visitors on the other. The locals saying, ooh no, I wouldn't go into Folkestone if I was you it's not nice at all. Parochial and wrong. Anyway, the important first pint in the first pub, will it be a Timothy Taylor's Landlord? No it won't, sorry it's off, so it has to be a Doom Bar, shame. Serve a bit cold, and nothing wrong with it, but not my preferred beer.

So that's one pub done, and only slightly behind schedule, I will catch up. Not going out of my way to a better pub, just heading home again. But I do pass another pub... Put my head in The Bell and there was no-one in there so I walked out again. Got a few steps towards home and thought well, it's quiet, but is it as quiet as not going to a pub at all? So I went back in. It stayed quiet, only me, one bar staff, and one other person at the bar who turned out to be the landlord. He probed me on the prices of ale at other pubs and told me how hard it was and how prices have to go up. Disappointingly (never have I talked about disappointment so much) the only beer on was Doom Bar again. I had one, no other punters came in, and I think they closed when I left there at half eight.

I watched one Umbrella Academy and then Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel when I got in.

So my Febrewery list so far:

  1. The Butt Of Sherry, Hythe.
  2. The Bell, Hythe.

I will do better tonight, out with friends, and tomorrow, in Canterbury.

T2 has a "rock star" dress up day today, he's looking great. It's encouraged him to get his actual guitar out and play me what he knows and it is a surprising amount! He looks good and sounds good.

Pay day today, and I won £25 on the premium bonds. No sign of the share money yet but CRIKEY the shares had a rally yesterday, I am back in actual profit for the first time in ages. The american ones had a sudden leap. I hope this stays.

A David Devant gig twenty-one years ago today and novelty band The Mike Flowers Pops this day right back in 1996. They were a sensation for a very short amount of time with their Oasis cover.
