Blog2022 ≫ Packed?

Nearly packed. Started lining up my clothes and trying to squeeze them into packing cubes. They don't fit and the bag is too heavy. I have packed too many pants and t-shirts and shirts I think. It is going to be hot, and I could easily wear them all if I changed a civilised number of times, but I'm wondering if I can get away with a few less. Enough pairs of pants for the trip alone takes up quite a lot of space in the bag. I have bought some new pants in a different style, that gets the volume down a bit. Also I have a plan to wear my worst stuff with holes in for the first couple of days of the trip, things that I should have thrown out by now, wear it and then throw it out. So less stuff to carry as the trip goes on. My holiday photos are going to be the best aren't they? I will have nicer clean clothes for the only photos peope will want to see, when I meet up with Clare and the boys in Rome.

Wondering if I'm making a mistake wearing my new trousers for traveling in. Probably. It is going to be one of the hottest days ever here on the day that I go, and then get hotter as I head towards Rome. But I like these new trousers and I really want to wear them. Think I need trousers at some points, we're going to some nice places, might have to wear them for dinner. They're not in any way smart trousers. I like the idea of these1, I read about them in an article on lockdown side hustles. They're supposed to have the features you want while cycling, stretchy, reflective bits, but then they're "smart enough to meet the CEO". If they had an axe pocket I'd get some.

I have my two good pairs of shorts to take. I can quite picture the situation where I only wear one of these for the whole trip, but at least they don't take up much space. I had the bigger pair repaired2, a new zip put in, in fact I have not collected them yet. If I manage to collect them before the trip then they might be the only pair I take.

I can hear a search helicopter out at sea as I write this (nine-ish again, Tuesday night). It has been another lovely day out there, very calm, sparkly sea. The beach not as busy, as everyone's either at work or away on holiday I suppose. I'm watching the very end of Better Call Saul3, it has been so good.

Three days from now I'll be trying to get to sleep, ready for my early start.

I was at The Darkness twenty years ago today, a few days before the release of the solo single. I was seeing them quite a lot at this time.
