Blog2022 ≫ Last minute massive change of plans

Looking up how to get from Lewisham into central London tomorrow. I should have done this before. I thought we used to get busses on this route all the time. Seemingly not. There's a train strike, which would affect things, so it looks like a combo of DLR and bus could do it, but it could take a while. Now, my plan was:

This doesn't really work out even if it's easy to get between places, so as I don't know I'm ditching the run and the swim. This means staying on the coach to London Victoria, and then even if all trains and tubes and busses are unusable I can still walk from there.

My plans for the day were fairly underground-heavy, but are flexible enough. Just that parkrun bit is a shame.

Now I have to repack everything, though it is obviously easier not having to take running gear and things. And I can wear my new boots all day that I got for my birthday, and the new trousers. It's all obviously simpler and smoother this way, but I am disappointed. I hope it is the only part of the day that has to be cancelled.

Now what of the stamped addressed envelope that I had prepared to send my running gear back in? Should I cancel it, or keep it, so I can go and buy some comics or something while waiting for my friends and then post them home? A nearby trainee detective told me today about a criminal who was using this technique for burglaries somehow. Stealing things and then posting them somewhere so he never had the stolen goods on him. So walking around with a self address jiffy bag like this could be suspicious, and I could even be arrested for "going equipped". These days, these days, you get arrested and thrown in jail just for using a postbox. Yes, arrested and thrown in jail.

I will come back to the other half of the birthday write-up.
