Blog2022 ≫ Sunday afternoon off

Jobs all done, boys to Grandpa's for the afternoon off, so some free time to me. To the pub!

Some notes while walking into Hythe. I dictated these into my phone, so they may be more rambling and even less sensicle than usual.

Walking from home to the Potting Shed for a cheeky beer on Sunday afternoon. Beach is absolutely heaving and every parking spot is taken all the way along. Beach itself is full. Even the sea itself is busy becase everyone has a paddle board or a boat in it today, suspecting it's mostly people from out of town. I see a lot of barbecues on the beach and I'm wondering how many of those are going to be taken away again. I'm guessing NONE so this place is going to be a litter fest tomorrow. I can't get too grumpy about that. That's the price we pay for it being this nice. Heading to the pub but have to go to Waitrose first for ingredients for Clare's soup and dah she's making latea. It's quarter past three already and I'm not know even there yet, what time does Waitrose shut? Hopefully not too early.

Would normally have gone to the Inn Doors on a Sunday afternoon, but it has opening on Sundays entirely now. Seems to be all part of their gradual wind down of the business. Some positive news though in the area, the Sandgate Hotel is reopening very soon. I've seen movement there recently. It's not the sort of place I would go to but it is the sort of place that attracts people so that's got to be positive for the area. And also there's some new wine bar type place opening a couple of doors along from the Inn Doors. It's called The Wine Shop And Tasting Room. I see on their planning application in the window they have a license for on sales and on sales. Hopefully it's a bar too, and they have a license for music. So I'm guessing it's going to be a place to go and sit here and drink, and not just a shop.

Started trying to firm up plans for two weeks time for my birthday day out, which is obviously banjaxxed slightly by this rail strike. To get around that I booked myself a coach, return coach from Folkestone and also booked myself a hotel. The only time coach I can get is 6am from Folkestone, as the next one would be 9am and not get me there until far too late. So I'll be cycling into Folkestone or something for 6am and then a three hour coach into LondonVictoria. Now this puts paid to the idea of the Parkrun in London, OR DOES IE because the coach takes a really circuitous route as it comes in via Gillingham and then via South London. So it's going to come in through New Cross, Eltham, Lewisham, a few different places. So I'm going to have a quick look and see if there's a Parkrun at one of those. I mean if it went close enough to Charlton I could do Charlton Parkrun, which would be great. Then I've just got to figure out what to do with my stuff. So I might be running with a tiny backpack, can't risk losing anything. The hotel I've gone for is a Premier Inn Bub hotel. That's one of the small ones. It's one we could never stay in as a family, but Clare and I have stayed in a hub before. I had a choice of bigger rooms or smaller room, I've gone for a small room because it's just me. It's not quite the tiny pod I'll be staying in in Vienna. I hope it'll be good. So Kings Cross is not the ideal location this time. I could kind of do with being near Victoria if I'm going to get the coach in from there and a coach back the next day, but there wasn't an affordable one near Victoria. Hotels are expensive generally. They're definitely expensive that weekend so it's going to be 200 quid just for this, just for me now. One good thing about it being Kings Cross is if there's any chance of the rail strike being canceled. That is a good location for me for getting on the train again the next day. Other than that I'm only a few stops on the tube back to London Victoria.
