Blog2022 ≫ A cheeky half

Mission accomplished! I think I really started running originally so I could run to Unit One over in West Hythe. I thought that is 5k away, and it's a great place but quite a way to walk, not near public transport, and if you drive you can't drink. If only there was another way... I started running about the time I had this idea, but have never run there. Until today. And I ran right past it without popping in. The "cheeky half" I mention is not a cheeky half pint but my first half marathon. I ran round Unit One and then back to Folkestone, turned around and stopped in Sandgate. Coincidentally near the Inn Doors1 but I did not go in there either, not drinking today. That was over 22km today, which is over the 13.1 miles to qualify as a half marathon distance. First time I have run that far. Was lovely out, hot, sunny, probably a bit too hot for optimum running conditions but I prefer it. A bit too breezy, I'd have preferred no wind. Still, done it, now onwards and upwards. Maybe 25km next weekend.

Think I have earned a Chinese takeaway tea now.

The Darkness twenty years ago today at Metro. I think this is the one I have some photos of and I have the top that Justin Hawkins was wearing at this gig. The Darkness are appearing at Download this weekend, and we probably should have been there. Emma could have got us freebies, and KISS, Iron Maiden, and Megadeth were all also playing (plus some more modern stuff I assume). I just felt a bit old and it seemed a long way. Would have been good weather for camping though.

Transvision Vamp only THIRTY-THREE years ago today, at Portsmouth Guildhall.

5k: Five kilometres, just over three miles in old money.
