Blog2022 ≫ Never seen such excitement in the house

After a day in London (looked busy on the way in, office quite quiet, falafel wrap for lunch1, very busy train home too) I went to Tesco, and I found the legendary "colleague shop" yellow sticker items. These are like the normal yellow sticker items but with a secret mark on that means if you have a colleague clubcard they are free. I bought some pineapple2 and a coconut. The boys acted like they'd never seen such a thing, they were so excited. I thought it might generate a bit of a buzz but the thrill was enormous. Can we smash it??? Thing one smashed it on the ground, but only some of the shell came off. Thing two hit it with a hammer a couple of times and this cracked it enough to prise it open and drink the coconut water inside. Very exciting. Then we peeled and ate some of the coconut too.

Turns out I had got the yellow sticker code wrong, and it's only in the closing hour of the shop this stuff is actually free, but it was 25p for the coconut, less my staff discount, and not much more for the pineapple. Money very well spent. I also bought more alcohol free drinks, as we are not drinking this week. Clare remembered we had enjoyed "Nosecco" in Dryanuary, so I bought more of that, plus some alcohol free cider. Yeah I expect it might be just apple juice. I will find out in a bit. Right now I'm having an alcohol free3 Punk IPA, as we already had it and it was cold.

Everyone else is in bed. Clare has to be at work in Canterbury by 7am tomorrow. This job of hers is not good hours.

In my own job it looks like I have a chance of a trip to Czechia in a few weeks, which is what we used to call Czech Republic, which is what you might still be calling Czechoslovakia, or even Bohemia if you are a bit older. It's a shame it's a country I've already ticked off but I'm quite pleased to be doing a bit of travel at someone elses expense. That will turn out to be quite a few countries in the one year if all pans out for me, likely Czechia, Belgiam, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and then whatever we do around christmas time. We still have Eurostar tickets booked for December.

Not drinking tomorrow too, so no Inn Doors. I'm going to try and get more running in this weekend, I have done none since Saturday. Turns out I was actually quite short of a half marathon, doing only about 20.5km, I need to do 21.1km. So that's my target for this weekend. A busy weekend for Clare though so will have to see if I can find a couple of hours to myself. She is doing some sort of charity 5km with a niece as well as a hair appointment and other things to fit in, as it's the last weekend before the new department where she has to work every other weekend. This job of hers is not good hours. Did I say that?

5k: Five km, just over three miles to you.

dryanuary: Not drinking for the month of January.
