Blog2022 ≫ Energy monitor is up and running

The new smart energy meters are in and the little device that lives in the house and talks to them is now up and running. This little gadget is optional and just for my info, and I don't think it's quite set up yet.

It can take two weeks for the smart meters to be set up fully apparently. When they are I will also see my account details on octopus.energy1 - ah yeah you should sign up too2 using this https://share.octopus.energy/cute-elm-487 - and they're not there yet. I know I have a standing charge of 41p a day for electricity and 27p a day for gas and I that was not reflected on the numbers I saw when I got up this morning. I will let it bed in for a few weeks before I take it seriously. Friends are saying their "get out of bed" reading is about £1.80, ie that's the daily cost by the time they get up in the morning. Doesn't feel like mine could be quite as high as that, we are pretty energy efficient here. If this new device makes me more so, without being too annoying about it3 then we will save money.

Clare had her big exam today, I think it was a bit of a shock how hard it was, but she's great at exams, so we'll see.

Thing one's birthday coming up very soon. I got ahead of the game with gift buying, and it should all be ok, but it still seems to come around very fast.
