Blog2022 ≫ Easter lunch at Lucky Chip

Had lunch in a hipster bar in Folkestone today 1. Place called The Lucky Chip. I've seen this place quite a lot but never been in there before. Didn't even know they did food. Clare booked it for Easter lunch today because she'd heard they did good roast dinners us so we went there with the boys and Jim for Easter Sunday lunch and it was ok. The boys had burgers, Clare had roast chicken, Jim had roast beef, and I had a vegan mushroom Wellington which was very nice though they brought it out with a Yorkshire pudding on the top which makes me think it might not have been entirely vegan. But yeah quite good though a bit salty a lot of gravy and that is probably where all the salt was. But apart from that good I had a beer with my lunch. They were doing a takeover from Verdant brewery of Cornwall, but it looked a bit of a gimmick. I think they normally have those beers there anyway. It was London prices for a beer, though I only had a half but it could have gone up to nearly 9 quid for a pint which is A LOT.

After we walked to Payers Park for the boys to go on the slide, then I left everyone else and I walked down to the Harbour Arm. It really busy, a lot of people out and about. It's a lovely, sunny day and I think this is the first weekend of the Harbour Arm being open, first weekend of the season, of the year so there are some new places that sprung up which look quite good. There is a new pub that I heard of called The Dog And Otter, which is really just a hatch on the harbor arm, but they have the novelty of a very small room you can go inside, their snug bar, but it would only hold about three people. I might have gone in there then, but there were people in there already. And also I think it's an Angels And Demons bar, no real ale. There's another cocktail bar on the harbour arm inside, obviously the champagne bar still there, and there are some new food options on the harbor arm itself and in the goods yard which look ok but just very very busy. Lots of people must be from out of town. All the accents make you think they're from Essex or North Kent rather than local. But I guess we can't complain. I left there, I'm walking back towards Sandgate 2. I'm going to go in the Inn Doors because I saw it was open and I'll have a pint there and then regroup. I might be meeting a friend later. We were talking about going to the Easter Ales beer festival at Chambers, but we'll see if that happens. I'm not sure if my friend is back in town yet or not and after I ist down in the Inn Doors I might not feel like going back into Folkestone.

UPDATE the next day, I had a couple of pints in a very busy Inn Doors and then went to The Clarendon to meet a friend and had a couple more there. Very nice indeed. Then home for tea, watched the end of yet another Lord Of The Rings and then lots of episodes of the American series of Ghosts and then that Jimmy Saville series on the Netflix. Interesting to see bits of Popbitch on there.

Speaking of Popbitch it looks like "Bitch Aid" was twenty-one years ago today, this was the fund raising party where I met John Deacon out of Queen. However on the same day I claim to have been at Interpol. It's feasible, the Popbitch party would have been a late night thing. Then also nineteen years ago today we were at Paul McCartney, twenty years ago today I seem to have been at both The Datsuns and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - again I think the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was a nightclub thing so it could be right, I might have got all those dates right. Then today in 1996 60ft Dolls headlining the Wedgewood Rooms. Good times!

I will be back with more rambling dictation.

  1. Yesterday actually, when I dictated this. Thought I would make the most of my walk back from Folkestone by writing up a blog post using the dictation feature of the phone. If this looks like it makes sense I will do more of it.
  2. I was walking back there when I dictated this, you get it now...
