Blog2021 ≫ I've got a bad feeling about this

This is what I found in my pocket yesterday. But let me rewind...

broken vw beetle key

Day off yesterday for Clare's graduation, though I did not go. Thing two and I headed to the Silver Screen cinema in Folkestone to see Ron's Gone Wrong1, and it was really good. He enjoyed it, it's a funny cartoon with funny things in it, but I enjoyed it because it is a great story, is anti facebook and iphone, and really quite a moving tale about friends. It's co-written by Peter Baynham, the one from Fist Of Fun?

We got lunch from ASDA and ate it during the film. Was not busy in the cinema, but then it was a normal school / work day for lots of people.

After we went to Tesco to stock up with goodies before heading home, got pizzas and beer and some great "nacho potatoes" which are like nachos or dirty fries, but sauté potatoes. Also some vegan "katsu kievs", which I would later have for tea and were very nice, I will get again.

Coming out of Tesco with our shopping I got my keys out to find the image above. They do say not to show your keys in photographs online as it's not difficult for thieves to make a copy of a key from only a picture. I think I'm safe with that one though2I didn't notice the key breaking, the other half was not in my pocket. Really hoping it is not in the lock or the ignition. I texted Clare and thing one and grandpa, hoping the graduation ceremony was over, but no response from anyone. Clare phoned me back soon, after a brief moan about the graduation - turns out she could have had one more guest, but no-one thought to tell her class as they were kind of tacked on to this ceremony - said she'd be back there in half an hour and just keep trying the others, who still had their phones on silent. I called a taxi, then got a message to say the others were two minutes away so cancelled it again. They arrived, took me home, and hooray I did have a spare key. Three spare keys for some reason. Grabbed the Leatherman3 for extra DIY opportunities, Drove back again and the spare opened the door, so the broken stub of key was not stuck in there. Key went into the ignition so it's not stuck there either! Key would not turn in the ignition though... You can open the doors of the beetle with just about anything, but the ignition is a bit less forgiving. Maybe the spare keys are old ones from the vw camper..? Second key the same. Third and final key was a goer though, and I got home. What a relief! I was really stuck on what to do if I could not start the car. Probably unscrew the numberplates with the leatherman and leave it there.

A celebratory drink at the Inn Doors after Clare got in. Got there at five minutes to opening, my favourite time to be in the pub. Three pints and then home for tea and to watch Bake Off Extra Slice and The Last Leg. A lovely day off really.

Up early for parkrun today, absolutely not feeling it. I have at least done one more 5k this week, yesterday morning I did one on the treadmill in front of the TV. Today it is cold and my thighs are aching. I know I will feel so good after the parkrun though. Still to decide whether to bike it or drive there though. I feel such a fraud if I drive or get a lift there.

I must remember to get another key cut. And maybe another one too.

Scientists say working from home is the best way to stop covid, I approve of that one, hope work are reading this.

Feeling a bit more energised after a cup of tea, maybe one more and I'll be ready to run.

I was at Electric Six (Danger! High Voltage!) nineteen years ago today, at the Barfly.
