Blog โ‰ซ 2021 โ‰ซ Action packed weekend

Been out and about for the last couple of days, had a lovely Friday off work to extend the weekend and fit in some fun with the boys before they head back to school. I think they'd rather have spent the whole day in watching youtube, but damn it I will make some experiences for them!

Clare had the day off too so while she went to the gym, we went swimming. Haven't been to Folkestone Sports Centre for a while, there have been issues the last few times we tried and we ended up in Hythe but this time it was all good. Quite quiet, we had a good swim, a very brief trip to the park, then Clare was done and we headed off for lunch.

We were going to Dover in the afternoon, so could we eat in Dover? Is there anywhere apart from Nandos? Clare investigated and found Allotment, a place we'd enjoyed a long time ago. It has changed owners and also pivotted during lockdown to become a Mexican restaurant, and it was great! Huge tasty portions, and good vegan options, so we had way too much food. Really good. I always say "we'll definitely come here again" and if it's vaguely off our regular track then we rarely do, but I definitely want to try. Next time we go to Dover.

Nearly forgot, the main reason for going to Dover, we did Clip And Climb in the afternoon. We all did it even me. The boys got the most out of it I think, I didn't enjoy it as much as they did, but it was for them. They appreciated us being there and joining in and not just watching. Thing one beat me in the face to face climbing race, but I beat everyone else on the speed wall. I was twice as slow as some boy who looked about thing two's age, and three times as slow as the course record, but I won the Clarke Cup.

When we got home we all walked to the Clarendon for one, then I went on to the Inn Doors and had a lovely evening. Everyone was complaining about the upcoming Sandgate Sea Festival, about how all the food and drink stalls are from out of town and will cannibalise the local trade.

I get up when I want, except on Saturday. Parkrun! Clare was up and out even earlier, and so I could not really run it and keep an eye on the boys at the same time so this week I took them along to volunteer with me. We got the bus in and I had the job of tail walker, which is great, as it counts as one credit towards my volunteer t-shirt (hmm, twenty-one to go still, seems my junior parkrun volunteering does not count) but also as a run. A very slow run and it brings my average down1 as I walked it in forty-nine minutes. There was one person walking at the back of the pack, and she had to stop so I jogged a bit to catch up with the new back of the pack, but a gentle walk otherwise. The boys walked some of the way with me, I let them stop and sit on the wall and cut off the corners, and for the second lap they went in the cafe.

After I joined them in the cafe (they had only run up a bill of FOURTEEN QUID) then we went for a walk round town, and bought some supplies for the party in the afternoon. Got the bus home, quick change, and then an actual bus back into Sandgate. It would have been quicker to walk but we had all day bus tickets, and they're very lazy. Lovely party afternoon round a friend's house and the weather stayed good for beers and curry in the garden.

Clare's working again, her last shift of the week. I'm only really up so early today because my smoke alarm started chirping at me to change the battery. I took it down and see it recommends replacing the entire unit by 2013, oops. Think I'm going to get one of these, I haven't bought an unneccessarily complicated home automation gadget for ages. Going to drag the boys up to Screwfix of Toolstation on their scooters before lunch, so another day of not just gaming! They will love that.
