Blog2021 ≫ Active day in the end yesterday

I did brave the rain and go for a run, and actually avoided the rain all the time I was running. I ran round Hythe, then kept going on to Folkestone. It turned into my second fastest 10k, though I don't think I was really trying. I'd even taken a bag with me, thinking I'd go to the Firkin Alehouse and bring home some takeaway for later. I ambled through town on the way there, really looking for something to eat too as it was into afternoon now and I'd not had any breakfast, but didn't find anything that tempted me. I got four pints to takeaway and sat and had a half while I was there. It wasn't really nice enough to enjoy sitting out though, and it just got worse on the walk home and I got soaked. Still, a good and active day up to that point.

I decided to finally do something about these coronavirus stats, turn them into graphs, as I've been planning for ages. So while the others were watching Freaky Friday1 I coded up the graph that will hopefully be attached to this post. I cheerfully settled on "deaths per week" as it was the most interesting graph. Just the number of cases and deaths makes for fairly flat lines, but doing it this way shows the peaks and troughs, and the recent massive worsening in India. Yes I remember each of these numbers is someone's life. I will look for some cheerier stats to work with.

Country cases deaths
USA 33670274 599364
Brazil 15521313 432785
India 24372243 266229
Mexico 2375115 219901
UK 4446824 127668
Italy 4146715 123927
Russia 4922901 115116
France 5848154 107423
Germany 3585891 86481
Colombia 3084460 80250

Today we walked around the town again. Kez had heard there was a vegan festival but I found no sign of it.

Thing one is cleaning the car right, because he's such a good boy, and not because we've already paid him and he's not allowed on the XBox today.

On this day in history I was seeing Atom Seed, Zodiac Mindwarp, and Sultans Of Ping, in 1991, 1992, and 1995 respectively. Those were indeed the days.

10k: Ten km, just over six miles in old money. Sometimes talking about 10,000 steps though, an arbitrary daily step-count target.
