Blog2021 ≫ Another night in hospital

Not sure what time I posted that last update, afternoon I suppose. He had an ultrasound after the x-ray, and while he didn't fancy playing any more XBox or eating, he did watch some TV on the laptop. Also he's been reading his book, so getting back to normal. We were moved out of the high dependency room into an actual ward, with four beds, though no-one else in it. A chair for me again, and we just settled down really and were ready for bed about half seven. Some point about now he had another drip with more antibiotics, but they'd reduced it to just one kind now, so it seems they knew what they were looking for. Was this following the results of the ultrasound and x-ray? No-one said. He was feeling a lot better, and ready to sleep, so I let him drift off and read my book next to him. When they came back to check on him his temperature had spiked again, so not actually better, so they had to give more paracetamol and do more observations in the night. So a bit more disruption, but not nearly as much as the night before. I think we both slept fairly well for a decent amount of time.

I just realised I keep saying "observations" and it sounds normal to me because I've heard it so much, but it means take his temperature, take his blood pressure and pulse and things and make a note of them.

This morning they said the observations in the night had been good (mostly done while we were both still asleep), his temperature had not gone up again, so just had to wait to see what the consultant said at about 10am. When they came around they let us know what it was all about, an infection , not coronavirus related, under control now, have some more drugs to take home and you can go! Such a relief.

We're home again, unpacked, washing in, boys watching TV, Clare studying, I get some time to just sit.

Ah wait, the phone is ringing.
