Blog2021 ≫ Runuary day seventeen

Overslept a little today, thought I'd be out and away by nine. Actually, last night I was thinking "I won't go out in the morning as my shoes are still wet", I had left them drying on the radiator. Then at some point I realised they were actually drying OK and would be good by morning, so I could head out. Then I was a bit later than I might have been, but still time for me to go out and come back before Clare was even laced up. I thought I'd do a bit more than 5km, maybe 10km, but 7.5km in the end. I started thinking about getting coffee and vegan cake from Orchard Lane and just couldn't really run past it after that.

The running shoes drying on the radiator is a lovely smell, everyone says, it's really making that downstairs bathroom.

I've done some more cooking today, possibly ruined the shepherds pie I was making in the slow cooker, but it might recover. I'm all prepared for a hectic week. Clare's new job, early starts, me and the boys all trying to work from home. I keep forgetting I have tomorrow off, so I had started fixing lunch for them in advance, printed out worksheets etc. Should be a good day tomorrow but how am I going to fit a run in? I guess I will go when Clare gets in, but then how will I hear about her exciting day?

Still exactly two weeks left of runuary, and so of course dryanuary too. I really meant to order some beers from The Firkin Alehouse today, as a) they have alcohol free ones, b) if I buy cans I can keep them until next month, and c) if enough people don't keep ordering from them in lockdown they might not be open again in February (Febrewery?) when we need them. Speaking of which what will I do for Febrewery? Last time I went to twenty-nine different pubs in the twenty-nine days, no chance of that this year. I thought about having an al fresco beer sneaking into the beer gardens of twenty-eight pubs, but not sure that is viable either.

Went for a walk this afternoon, all four of us. It was very busy out on the seafront. I saw two friends from the Inn Doors, we're all missing it and would love to be back there.

Twenty-five years ago today, Perfume at the Joiners. Twenty-four years ago The Wedding Present, I was well settled into London life by this point. Twenty years ago today I was at a TV recording featuring Orbital and others. Something I got invited to as someone on the production team played Popex.
