Blog2020 ≫ I fitted new lights in the study

I did some DIY electrics again, and it went quite smoothly. I've replaced the single ceiling light in the study with three spotlights to give me more light to work in. Impressed that the light fitting from IKEA has nice little connectors inside similar to the WAGO connectors1. Still quite hard to fit this as I'm having to support this heavy light fitting over my head as I do this. Still, all in now, with the smart bulbs also from IKEA so that is another room fully automated.

I had second thoughts on how I'm going to ruin the bureau. Instead of trying to prise a panel off the back as I mentioned the other day, I am going to drill through it. It's all separate planks on the back, and while I think it is still oak it is fairly rough and unfinished, and so if I did entirely mess it up, or decided this unit should be fully restored one day, it'll be easy enough to replace the bit I have drilled through. Hopefully I won't mess it up too badly in cutting holes to run the wiring through it.

I have already got my twenty-seven inch monitor inside it. Will be better when I can get a new socket in that room and not have an extension lead trailing out of it but it's improving every day. I will be back with photos when I'm done with the drilling.

Still more to catch up on from the last few days but running out of time to write. I need to shower now, then DIY, then take the boys out for some exercise, then have fajitas for tea later. Oh and then we're watching part two of The Hobbit1 as we watched part one last night and the boys both loved it. Man alive it's long, they really squeezed a lot of hours of film out of a relatively small book.
