Blog2020 ≫ Heavy rain today

Thing one went off to school in a hurry without his coat, then we got the downpour while he was at the bus stop. Hopefully that is it for the day and he'll dry out. Started again when it was time to take thing two, but we were prepared for it. Thinking of going for a run but I will wait and see if it calms down.

Been looking at car deals, leasing and free finance type things. They look quite doable, until you remember to check the box saying "I will do more than 5000 miles a year", then the price rockets. Looking at something like this for example1 we'd get a very nice hybrid car with all the whistles and bells and be paying £150 a month each2 for the privilege. Doesn't sound so bad. However if Clare really has to drive to Maidstone and back every day for work (for the next two years anyway) then we could be doing 30,000 miles a year. Add that into the mix and the lease costs go up to £225 a month each... The price of leasing or finance look to be about the same, once you have resigned yourself to the fact the car soon has no value, it is depreciating fast and you're not going to sell it for much.

Looks like my IFTTT apps are going to stop working soon. They're starting to charge for it, and I've never had any value out of it. I'm using it now to repost a picture and limited run stats to the twitter when I do a run, but I could do that better without IFTTT (I already have my own one that posts a better version to my Slack channel). I did use it in the past to try and close the blinds when it was going to be sunny, but it was never quite reliable enough. I can't see them surviving in this form, unless enough other people found ways of making something valuable out of it.

Finally the NHS coronavirus app is ready. I'm running it now. I like the idea that it is a game, how many high risk places can you check in at without catching it..?3

Rain has cleared up, sun has come out, so going for a run when my breakfast has gone down. Maybe to West Hythe so then I can walk back via the supermarket.
