Blog2020 ≫ New pub adventure mostly worked

Yesterday the boys went to grandpa's for the day, and Clare went out for lunch with Jen, so I was at my leisure. I did some treadmill exercise and then walked to The Lifeboat, and it is great. It's a proper traditional pub, and was nice and quiet on a Friday afternoon. I definitely want to head here again, I really liked it. We were planning to go to Snargate and the Red Lion so I walked back homewards ready to be picked up at an unspecified time. I waited in the Inn Doors and got the call, not really time to get to the Red Lion before it closes so we just went to the Hidden Treasure instead. Had an enjoyable couple of pints in the garden there, then back to Hythe and the Three Mariners for a couple more and left the car there. Then a taxi back to Sandgate and a very nice curry in Green Spice. Altogether a very enjoyable afternoon and evening.

Today I did a fairly spontaneous run, which turned into a lovely 10k. A personal best 10k as it goes, though I was not really pushing it. I ran round Hythe and back to Sandgate in 46'53. Then to Folkestone for final bits of PE kit shopping for thing one. We biked in and got football boots and sports socks. Bit windy out, very windy actually but was a nice ride and a successful shop. He left me at the Inn Doors and cycled home with the shopping and I had a few beers in there with a friend, discussing all the redundancy related things that had gone on at work. We talked again about our plan we've had for the last fifteen years, to go to The Drum for lunch and then just stay there all afternoon. Maybe that will be our official leaving do, or more likely it will not actually happen.

I had to be back by six so Clare could go out to an actual drive-in in Folkestone. It's still very windy out I can see them abandoning it, especially as they're going to the drive-in without a car. It's an option at the Harbour Arm, you can book a rickshaw. It sounds great, but will they get blown into the sea?

Hmm, The White Hart has been closed because coronavirus1, and we were there last Wednesday. Do we need to do anything? That was eleven days ago. Did they even take our details?

Twenty years ago today I was at a secret Pulp gig, a warm up for Reading. I looked at my review of the Reading in questioh, and it seems I didn't see the headliners at all (Oasis, Pulp, and Stereophonics) nor some of the bigger acts on the bill (including Rage Against The Machine), how cool am I? I was there on a freebie. Those were the days.

10k: Ten kilometres, just over six miles in old money. Sometimes talking about 10,000 steps though, an arbitrary daily step count target.
