Blog2020 ≫ Quiet day

Another hot day, 23°. Thing one was out so thing two and I cycled to the park in Hythe. Not much to report apart from that. I only really checked in to see if I have any gig anniversaries or anything interesting today. And I do not. From tomorrow onwards we start hitting the Reading and V Festival anniversaries, but nothing for today.

The latest More Or Less from Radio 4 covered all the things I was talking about the other day again. The issue with the badly reported number of coronavirus tests was that the government were double counting tests that had been posted out, so counting them when they were sent and counting them again when they were processed. Something like 1.2 million extra tests were counted in this way and so eventually had to be removed from the stats. This was done quietly, whereas the "we are meeting our targets we set for the number of tests" was done noisily in the headlines.

I'm thinking of changing our internet back to a phone line. My experiments with 4G for the home have been an unmitigated disaster and cost me so much more when I was hoping to save money. It's down to where we live, there aren't enough masts in the area I suppose, and there are too many people sharing to get a decent reliable speed. This sort of thing also affects us on the landline too, we're 2km from the nearest fibre cabinet so we won't get amazing speeds, but they should be more reliable. I'll be going back up to £35 a month instead of £20, and if I want to sort it now then I'll be double paying until my Three contract runs out. Also I paid £100 for a replacement 4G router and also £10 or so for new arials hoping they would make a difference. The new router is really good, but I just have no need for it now. Maybe I could sell it, but I probably won't... Have I learned my lesson? Probably not.
