Blog2020 ≫ Big day out on the bus

I had a grand day out yesterday, starting in Dymchurch. Got the bus there to meet friend and ex workmate Steve in the Hidden Treasure. The bus was absolutely roasting, a combo of the hottest day of the year and wearing the new facemasks. I had to get off in the end when we hit traffice approaching Dymchurch, and walk the last kilometre or so.

The Hidden Treasure was lovely, but quiet. It was 1pm and in theory people should be at work, but still. We sat in the garden (didn't even know it had a garden), it was great and just shaded enough. It's in the shadow of a Martello Tower, and one of the fairground rides on the other side just peeps over the garden wall. We had several lovely pints there and were joined by another workmate who is still at work, he's been unfurloughed to work on something. They both had news of work, nice to catch up on the stories. There have been more people leaving who had not been announced yet, interesting. Doesn't sound like there will be enough of us left to meet the redundancy targets that have been talked about.

I got chips and salad and pitta, see, sensibly remembering to eat, but struggled to eat it on the bus back to Folkestone. Hard to eat with a facemask on and I wasn't sure if I should be doing that. We went to The Bouverie Tap, and they're taking the new restrictions on pubs quite seriously, where some are a little more relaxed. The only free table was downstairs, and I've not been there since this place was a restaurant. A restaurant we flounced out of once I seem to remember. We felt a bit isolated down in the basement, I suppose that is a good thing though. Only one beer there, then to The Firkin Alehouse. I had a raspberry saison in there, but the other beers on didn't really inspire so we headed off. I'd overheard someone saying Kipps Alehouse was reopening, but quietly, so we headed there. It was not open yet, maybe that's today. Next to the Pullman for a couple, where another friend joined us. This is where all the hipsters in Folkestone go it seems, it's a nice pub, and the beer was good. After this we walked back to the old reliable Inn Doors and had a great time, lots of other friends were in there.

I made a plan to do a similar bus visit to Dymchurch again this week.
