Blog2020 ≫ Three holes-in-one

Another cracking day. A high of 20° and a low of 13° today. Was hotter than this yesterday I think. We did go to play mini golf. Thing one claims he won, I think I did, though mysteriously he lost the score card... I got three hole-in-ones (or is it holes-in-one) but had a couple of stinkers, he got a pretty regular two shots on each hole. The adventure crazy golf at West Hythe was not very adventurous or crazy, mostly it is straighg holes with a concrete animal nearby. There were a few with moving parts though. The boys enjoyed it very much. We were done pretty quickly, and it was about twenty quid for the three of us, but what price their little smiling faces?

I ran 5k after we got home, was too hot though, and still very very busy along the beach. This reminds me we can go out and do some litter picking, I bet it is a right state out there.

I finished the Muriel Spark book 1, it was good but a bit odd. Good for me to read something completely different, though there are elements of crime to it. Now on to Julie Wassmer instead as I realised I had not one but two of her books in the house I'd not read yet.

Author Book Thoughts
Ian Rankin Westwind 2 Dated thriller, shame.
Ian Rankin Doors Open 2 Really good crime caper in Edinburgh but with no Rebus.
Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games 2 Borrowed from the children, very good.
Suzanne Collins Catching Fire 2 Hunger Games part 2, read this even quicker, a bit darker.
Suzanne Collins Mockingjay 2 Hunger Games part 3, joyless and grim. Very 2020...
Karen McManus One Of Us Is Lying 3 Another one liberated from the children's bookshelf. A Breakfast Club whodunnit, dying to be a film, not at all suitable for a ten year old...
Robin Paige Death at Glamis Castle 4 Edwardian era mystery written by Americans. I read one of these before. Quite atmospheric, though a little twee. Sort of romance / crime. Written in accents, with plenty of "of the time" attitudes.
Jed Rubenfield The Interpretation of Murder 5 A charity shop find, one you always see, have had it kicking around a long time. Historical crime fiction again set in New York 1909, featuring Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Great, but complicated and fairly unlikely!
Muriel Spark Loitering With Intent 1 Branching out a little this time, it's not even a crime.
Julie Wassmer Murder on the Pilgrims Way 6 Going back to the familiar now. Fairly gentle and local crime. Forgot I had this one from when we met the author in Waterstones.

Thing one is back in school today. We JUST remembered to sun cream him at the last minute. Actually remembered just after the last minute, but luckily I had some in my pocket I could throw over the fence to him. They're not allowed to do things like applying sun cream for them any more. Shops are also open today, though I have no need to rush back to a shop for a while. I expect Clare is keen and will find some excuse to go to one tomorrow.

Thing two is not in school today. He's done some work on his animals project though, and also set up his own bar! Soft drinks only, 60p for a can, 50p for a water, 20p opening day discount, so I took some pictures and have turned it into homework. I gave him a load of orders and he had to work out the total costs, with and without discount.

I think I just got rid of my old minidisc playing stereo on https://groups.freecycle.org/ - someone coming to collect after school today. I was going to list the blu-ray player too but as it's only 99% working (which is why I replaced it) I should probably take it to the tip instead. If I can't put up with it only 99% working, will someone else? It's a real shame as it's boxed and everything. Someone just sold one here for £130 7. Stop hoarding and chuck it all you lunatic. Next stop my Roberts kitchen DAB radio and that old plasma telly.
