Blog2020 ≫ They came up with a plan at work

Everyone is going part time on 50% pay for the next three months. Not ideal, but I can cope, and it helps with the child care. Kids are finishing school today.

Sort of wish they'd done redundancies instead, surely there's a lot of dead wood. Even if that includes me! I guess we cannot afford redundancies. I expect it will go on longer than three months1. Our colleagues in the EU get a better deal as the government will cover 60% of their wages. They're going down to 20% working hours, sounds quite good. I'm sure it's the German government rather than just being in the EU that's done this but still...

I had a look at the mortgage and realised I've been overpaying by £300 a month, I thought it was only £100, so that's a buffer. I might not even have to go for the mortgage payment holiday. Cutting out going out for dinner will save us hundreds, not going to the pub hundreds more. If I cut out drinking at home too I could actually be up on the deal.

Clare's work do not have a plan, she is still going out to work at the moment. And socialising too. She went out to the Three Mariners with Sam last night and is going out with Sam again today.

I have a day off today, realised I had two days holiday left to take. I'm self isolating mostly but might go to Homebase or Wickes or something to get some paint.

We're back in the top ten countries with most reported cases, according to worldometers2, and the testing is about to go up so that number should rise. Hopefully the new measures will mean the number of recoveries goes up fast too.
