Blog2020 ≫ Swimming and school still on, but all the pubs are going to die

Swimming still on, and school still open, but Boris Johnson and team are advising people to stop going to pubs, cafes, theatres etc. Not ordering the pubs, cafes, and theatres to close so that they can claim on their insurance, just shifting the responsibility for it. Clare is braving a cafe today as she has a day off. She does not trust my theory that the heat generated while ironing could kill off the virus. Parents evening, film night, mothers day service all cancelled, but school itself goes on as normal for now.

1543 coronavirus cases in the UK, 55 deaths, but the number of recoveries is climbing faster at 52. The cases and the recoveries are probably way under the real figure.

I went for a walk this evening to Sandgate and everyone smiled and said hello, I'm sure way more than usual. And some one in our street who we don't know put a note through the door saying "let's start a neighbourhood WhatsApp group to see if we can help each other out". So there are small positives out there.

I thought I was still going to the pub on Friday but will have to see. The plans were already downgraded from a leaving do at The Pullman to just a few of us at The Hidden Treasure in Dymchurch, but now the leaver is saying they will surely all be shut and let's have a "virtual leaving do" with some drinks and a video hangout. Also just did a video hangout with Ro, hmm maybe it is the future after all?

My health check for tomorrow was just cancelled.

Given the Government's guidance today regarding Coronavirus and the interpretation by Swim England we will be continuing with Club sessions tomorrow. Please note this advice may change at short notice and we will advise further regarding our Thursday Club Night. Obviously, it is parents choice whether participants in the Swimschool or Squads attend tomorrow.

If you do attend tomorrow, can you please ensure that you shower before entering the pool and maintain good hand washing hygiene.

Advice from Swim England:

“At present the Government has not closed schools or restricted school activity and therefore we do not see any reason why clubs should not continue with their training programmes in their own environment within the guidelines of the facility”

Just to reiterate we will follow Government/Swim England guidance as it emerges so please check your emails on a re gular basis, we anticipate that guidance will change quite quickly over the forthcoming days.
