Blog2020 ≫ New pub in town

Coronavirus cases in the UK 1391, 35 deaths and 20 recoveries so far. The numbers don't tell the story though as no-one is being tested. It's a bit scary out there now, it is the lack of confidence that is the worst thing. People cancelling trips and not going about their normal business is going to knock a lot of businesses out. This must be about the worst time to try and start a new business...

There's a new pub in town and I went there yesterday! After Clare's pump class we received our Sainsbury's delivery (many many substitutes and we didn't even try to order anything controversial like hand sanitiser) and headed to Canterbury. Fairly quiet in the city centre but not deserted. We went to Wagamama and it was quite full. I'm a bit over Wagamama at last, I had the new ramen dish that seems to have replaced Yasai Itame and it was ok but a bit bland. After this the boys bought books and then we didn't hang around, straight back home.

Clare dropped me off in Folkestone so I could check out the new pub, but I thought I was too early, so went in the Bouverie Tap first. Had a half in there with a huge side order of coronavirus-fear from the barman and then on to The Beer Shop, the new bar on Rendezvous Street. My mistake, I thought it didn't open until 4pm, but it was open at midday. It's very nice! They had three cask ales on, eight keg "craft" beers and then a big range of interesting cans. Also wine and real cider, maybe five to choose from? I had a hazelnut porter that was really good, a bit rich and sweet though, I should not have had a pint. Best of all about going there on a Sunday, all their real ales were three pounds a pint, it's "happy Sunday". This is because they're only open from Thursday to Sunday so they want those all used up and get a fresh batch on on Thursday.

Best of luck to them.

I maybe should have stayed and had another there but walked back to the Inn Doors instead, as I wanted to be there before it potentially closed at six. Met some friends in there who were not yet self-isolating, and another couple of pints.

After that home for tea, then tried to watch that new crime drama but it was not grabbing us, so we switched to Race Around The World and that was really good.

Back to it at work today, working from home all week.

PTA meeting tonight has been cancelled, and so are other school events. School itself still open so far.
