Blog2020 ≫ We must be about due a car breakdown

It's been a year surely... Yep call from Clare, the car has broken down in Dover! Steering light has come on, there is no power steering. AA are coming in an hour. She has spoken to a garage that is in sight of where she is, they say they can't come and have a look it will have to be towed to them so we have to wait for the AA. It's not a nice day to be hanging around. She has broken down right by a pub! However it is permanently closed. There is another pub ten minutes walk away that is open but she doesn't want to leave the car as the AA are apparently tracking the position of her phone... At least it didn't happen on the way to Portchester with the boys in the car, or they would never do that journey again...

And an update the car can be fixed, but not today. We could drive it but it would be hard work, much like driving the beetle I suspect.

I thought about hiring a car for the trip but it will be a bit of a faff and works out cheaper to just get the train. If Clare was coming too the hire car would balance out. This way we will probably spend longer on the journey, but if I take the tablets1 for the boys and a few cans and a book for me it could be a lot more pleasurable than a rainy drive round the M25.

1: Tablets as in computer devices, not something to knock them out, like BA from The A-Team. Although...
