Blog2020 ≫ And the finished light fitting in situ

Well nearly finished. Here it is all wired up with lights shining and me not dead of electrocution, so not bad. However first thing Clare noticed was not how much light we now had for being able to see and apply makeup and so on, it was that it's slightly crooked. So it's coming down again tomorrow to put another screw in. I thought I could get away with the two existing screws that held the old light fitting in place, but no.

The other thing is the bulbs are not the finished version. I have new Tradfri smart GU10 bulbs from IKEA to go in. I put them in today, turned them on, and they flicker. This must be because of the Lightwaverf dimmer switch that is still attached - you can't fit new smart bulbs with a dimmer switch it won't work. So I will remove that and put the old light switch back on. The new bulbs are fully controlled bu remote control, by phone app, and by my calendar setup, so it's all good, we don't need the lightwaverf any more.

I don't like having them connected to the light switch at all really, I want them to be permanently live, and I could do that. However Clare wants the light switch to stay. I have to find a new solution so it works as two way lighting. Right now the light switch at the wall is a master switch, that has to be on for anything else to work. It means we can easily get in a situation where none of the home automation stuff works. I am hoping to find a light switch solution. It might be mounting the IKEA remote to the wall, or finding some other nice Zigbee light switch.
