Blog2020 ≫ Dry-vegan-runuary day twenty-one

Clare woke me up for this morning's run, I might have dozed through it. I was awake at various points in the night, I remember thinking it was time to get up just after 2am, I just was not quite awake at this one. Anyway, I did it, up and out again before breakfast.

Man alive it was cold out. I did one loop round our road then headed to Hythe for a change. Ran to Waitrose and back along Princes Parade. I say ran, it was a proper jog today as I was feeling quite cold and stiff. Still did it, the end of this pointless month's challenge is now in sight.

I got the email about my parkrun 50 running top, it's on its way. I had to pay £3.99 for postage, hmm, I do not normally pay £3.99 in total for an item of clothing. Still this one is quite a trophy.

My new IKEA light fitting has been delivered, along with more smart GU10 bulbs. I hope this looks good when it's done, it's for the bedroom, I hope it is acceptable to Clare. We need more light in there, she does particularly for make-up. So if the fitting is not too ugly, and the light is good, then she is happy. And I get fully automated lights! I'm replacing the existing pendant (with cheap faux suede shade) with something like this. Ideally I'd embed GU10 downlighters into the ceiling instead, but this is a) much cheaper, b) less disruptive, c) no drilling new holes, and d) wiring I can do myself. And I can still go for downlighters later.

One "tricky" thing here is moving from the old smart lights, where we are controlling the light switch, to new smart lights, where we are controlling the bulbs. This means replacing the light switch too, ideally getting rid of the old light switch completely and replacing it with the remote fixed to the wall. Can I make that look good? If I can't do this then we can still get in the state where the lights are switched off at the wall, which means there's no power to the bulbs, which means the automation stops working. I need to investigate this.
