Blog2019 ≫ Bronx Deli in Folkestone

Hmm funny sort of day today. Started off trying to do something good and have learned my lesson. I carried three scooters from where we parked on the outskirts of town into the charity shops. No charity shop would take scooters, "health and safety" apparently. These are good expensive scooters, one is a micro-scooter! They're too good to go to the tip, but we have outgrown them and friends we have asked already have this sort of thing. I guess I'll put them on ebay now for 99p and see if someone will collect them.

That started me off in a bit of a bad mood. We were looking for food, and had an idea to go to Planet Earth Kitchen. It's alright, thing two was not entirely convinced, but I thought I'd talk him round. We got there and it was closed for christmas holidays anyway. Next we tried Bella Vita at the bottom of the Old High Street but it looks like it's all pizza and pasta now and we wanted the old one with sandwiches and salads. If we were going to have proper Italian we had somewhere else in mind that we wanted to visit. So back up to town to try Salentinos. There was no-one in there and I didn't fancy sitting in an empty restaurant, but did want to try Bronx Deli next door. They do sandwiches, burgers, salad, vegan options, let's give it a try.

It looked busy, maybe a but short staffed. No-one to greet us or show us to a table so we sat down and waited, though no-one came over to us. Staff were arguing about something that had gone wrong. Went to the counter to say "do we come up to order?" and the lady there huffed that she thought someone else was dealing with us. Then she didn't seem sure what drinks they had on, we had to go and look, then the drinks out of the fridge were all warm, possibly the fridge wasn't working. We could get by, but then they didn't have the wine on the menu that Clare chose (yeah first world problem), then she sent someone else over to talk to us who just made all the same mistakes again, contradicting the first person but getting it wrong again, but made it feel it was my fault. No time for this, so BYE! I haven't flounced out of a restaurant mid order for ages! I can't link to them, it's new and has no web presence to speak of. I think with the lack of organisation and lack of stuff available maybe they are struggling, or maybe it was just an unfortunate festive lull.

We should have just gone straight to Luben to start with. It was very busy and so the most festive feeling place I've been over the whole holiday. Service was slow as it was so busy, but worth waiting for. Vegan meatballs this time for me, pretty nice. I had this as a starter last time, but as a main it comes with pasta. I think it might have been better to the starter and a salad, but anyway, nice they have so much vegan choice. The others had pizza and very much enjoyed it.

Now home, for a quiet night in. Clare is going back out (though now not to Luben or Bronx Deli or Salentinos I suspect).

Nice to have something else to say after three straight posts in a row only about running, even if it is basically a complaint.
