Blog2019 ≫ Fixed up my home network

Had to set up home network again this weekend. This new Huawei router defaults to a different subnet, so all my raspberry pi's (raspberries pi?) that are tucked away behind cabinets and things with no monitor or keyboard disappeared off the network, and so did my NAS full of music. Figured the easiest way is to change the new router to the old settings, rather than try and update all the boxes. Everything back online. Almost everything...

I struggled to find where to change the DNS settings of the new router, and it turns out the dns settings on the router are HIDDEN1, I don't know why. Have to manipulate the page using mad developer skills to be able to change the dns server. Now I have pi-hole2 working again, so no more ads for me and a sped up network.

Been for a run today, much harder than it should have been as yesterday's storm has put all of the beach up on the path. I was running shin deep in pebbles. They work hard all year to manage the erosion, huge trucks delivering new pebbles to this stretch of coast keeping it topped up. One decent storm undose all that work in one day, the beach is absolutely flattened. I ran as far as the coastal park and back, doesn't even look like 6k according to fitbit but it felt harder than that.

Still struggling over what to replace fitbit with I think this looks like the sensible option3 and while it's not exactly cheap, it's £125 less than the other option I was looking at. The difference seems to be maps on the screen of the watch itself. Do I really need that? It would be cool... Hopefully I will dither so much there will be another new version out (these are both v5 and there's already a v6) and the price will drop again.

5k: Five km, just over three miles to you.

raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
