I turned the power off for a while to replace that shorting socket, and now all is good again, we have a lamp in the corner of the lounge. Still can't figure out what was wrong, I think it was the extension lead going into the socket rather than the socket itself. Have chucked the extension lead, so not got everything quite so precariously daisy chained together now. Might give the socket itself another go.
Clare's gym class was cancelled this morning, she didn't find out until she got there. So she is REALLY PLEASED that she forewent her lie-in this morning...
Off to a barbecue in half an hour.
